Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI)

WAREHOUSE CONVERTED INTO BSL-2 LAB INCUBATOR SPACE

MBI is dedicated to fostering innovation in life sciences by providing space to start-ups and growing biomedical companies. Due to increased demand, Timberline worked alongside MBI to take warehouse space in Worcester and convert it to 10 private BSL-2 lab spaces with adjoining offices.

To creatively create office space, we constructed a mezzanine level connecting with the 2nd floor of the existing MBI facilities. We ran steel through the center of the warehouse space, fastening the structure to the existing deck above and supporting it below with columns and a new helical pile/grade beam system.

In support of lab functions, a new MEP infrastructure was installed. The individual spaces were designed and built with flexibility in mind, helping participating companies scale from concept to clinical trials.
