RELOCATION & RENOVATION FOR GENE THERAPY INNOVATORS

bluebird bio, a Massachusetts-based biotech company, sought out construction services for their new corporate space in Somerville. Working together with Federal Realty, Jacobs and JLL, Timberline recently completed a 60,000-square-foot headquarters for bluebird’s corporate team in Assembly Row.

This project required extensive BIM coordination for MEP/FP and includes a chilled beam mechanical system. Working in an occupied building posed some unique challenges for our team – including equipment delivery. Timberline collaborated with building management to develop a crane delivery system for large equipment to minimize disruptions to the building tenants. We also implemented noise and dust controls to ensure tenants’ day-to-day operations go undisturbed.

bluebird’s new office includes an open floor plan with a mix of collaboration areas and huddle rooms on two floors. The main café and gathering space are on the upper floor with the reception and a secondary café on the lower floor. It also includes a large boardroom, flexible conference rooms as well as a dedicated room to conduct meditation, yoga and wellness sessions.
