COMPLEX RENOVATION IN OCCUPIED LAB BUILDING

The Boston University Photonics Center has become well known for building a strong academic program in the field of photonics. The University’s leadership in the field is supported by a state-of-the-art facility that includes an optical fiber draw tower and more than a dozen special-purpose research laboratories.

This technically sophisticated renovation called for converting existing space into a sample preparation room for Transmission Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy as well as laboratory uses. Timberline installed lab benches and optical tables together with exhaust arms and all new finishes throughout the space. New plumbing and electrical lines to serve the enhanced use were fitted to each table and tied into existing building systems. Timberline also installed Dri-Steem humidifiers into the ductwork in the clean rooms.

An active research facility, mitigating construction impacts such as noise, dust and vibration to adjacent occupied labs was critical to the successful completion of this project.
