WHERE LEARNING TAKES SHAPE: THIS GROUND UP, DESIGN BUILD PROJECT OPENS NEW DOORS FOR MALDEN CATHOLIC

Malden Catholic selected Timberline’s in-house design and construction teams to deliver a new 80,000 SF academic and athletic facility as part of the school’s campus expansion, supporting future generations of students. Timberline was awarded the project through a competitive bidding process based on our ability to propose creative, cost-effective solutions that maximized space while aligning with the school’s budget and schedule goals.

Originally scoped to include a turf field and indoor practice gym, the project evolved significantly as our team collaborated closely with school leadership to better understand Malden Catholic’s long-term vision and educational mission. Through a series of design exercises, Timberline proposed the addition of a third floor – an innovative adjustment that allowed the school to introduce a middle school program within the existing building footprint.

This project exemplifies the strength of a truly integrated partnership and reflects Timberline’s client-first mindset. Delivered under our in-house design-build model, the facility will be constructed on a 69-week schedule following an initial demolition and abatement phase.

Given the tight site constraints and the building’s adjacency to the active academic campus, efficient programming and thoughtful design were critical. Timberline developed a comprehensive site logistics plan to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and visitors throughout construction.

The expanded facility will feature 17 classrooms, state-of-the-art learning labs for Biomedical Engineering, Financial Literacy, and Entrepreneurship, a 35,000-square-foot indoor turf field, and a 3,000-square-foot wellness center. The building is set to open in September 2025, coinciding with the launch of Malden Catholic’s new 7th and 8th-grade division.
